I enjoyed her specialty.
Perfect texture and vegetarian. Off the beaten path and less touristy.

While the last visit was 8 years back, I'm glad to see that Ann Chin Popiah is being featured in the Michelin Guide. Not only that, their stalls have multiplied quite a fair bit over the years.Their menu has more items now as compared to the past with Popiah, Kueh Pie Tee, Handmade Popiah Skin, Handmade Yam Roll, Handmade Spring Roll and Handmade Curry Spring Roll.Price of the Popiah has increased 20 cents from 8 years ago.The standard remains the same with fillings skillfully wrapped and tightly encased by the thin layer of homemade Popiah skin.Ingredients of the fillings are quite standard with eggs, turnips, crispy bits, bean sprouts etc. With delivery options available for most hawkers nowadays, Ann Chin Popiah can be ordered online too. If you are planning food for the party, there is food available online via Ann Chin's Website

Michelin mentioned popiah was well made: very thin skin and came with perfect combination of various fillings including some crunch fried dough bits which elevate the snack. The only negative is it is slightly too sweet.
Be the first to ReplyThis was my first thing I ate when I entered Singapore.
I liked everything I tried however, I feel like everything was a tad bit too sweet. I finished everything I ordered and was pleased with the amount I paid. I would say that this is great snack food. As for the Michelin recommendation this place received, I am not sure if I agree with it however- I am not a professional foodie hehe. The fillings were plentiful and as I passed the shell of each item, there was flavor and I had no trouble eating anything. I'd recommend it if you're in the area.

60 for 1, $3 for 2) - 2.5 starsSkin was thick and the filling was unimpressive. No prawns here because they're vegetarian but they use garlic.Kueh pie tee ($3 for 4) - 2.5 starsVery crunchy but too sweet for my liking and they skimped on the filling; there were only one or two thin strips of egg in each shell.Wouldn't come here again.
Be the first to ReplyI am no expert on popiah.
All I can say it is delicious. The wrappers are delicate and soft and you can ask her to not make them too spicy if you're a whimp like me. This is a hawker stand on the second floor of the Chinatown complex. I've only caught her open in the morning on a weekend and otherwise starting at lunch time or later.

After my failed attempt to have Ann Chin Popiah at Singapore Food Trail @Singapore Flyer, I headed to Chinatown Hawker Centre where the actual store is located as it sells my two favourite hawker food popiah and kueh pie tee! I thought I was lucky as the hawker centre had just been opened for a few days since it shut down for refurbishment. We ordered two popiah (one for $1.60/two for $3) one spicy and one plain. Overall, they were one of the better popiahs in Singapore, and as always, I prefer spicy to plain. The resilient skin did not wilt when it contacted the moist filling. There is also the crunchy fritters and peanuts, but the mangkwang (turnip) was not very flavorful. In fact, I like the kueh pie tee ($3 for 6 pieces) with the crispy prawns sitted on top. The shells have been arranged in the container and are filled upon order. Try putting the entire thing in your mouth (if it is big enough:p) and let the flavors explode in your mouth. The fillings were warm, juicy and crunchy. Instead of popiah, the kueh pie tee would be something that I would want to have again. But, I just realised I missed out the Satay Bee Hoon on the right. Need to go back soon to have my fix!
