The whole 'speakeasy' vibe was lost on us as the first employee we encountered seemed more like a doorkeeper from Studio 54: "Hi we have reservations". Employee disappears inside and closes the door leaving us out on the sidewalk. Employee reappears and says our companions had arrived early but they sent them elsewhere to wait for us. She's going to see if her Manager can find them. Employee disappears inside again and closes the door on us again. Door reopens and we are finally invited inside. This should be even more fun in the middle of a Philly Winter. We are shown to our table. We can see why they won't bring you into the restaurant as there is no space inside for patrons to wait and I believe the bar only had 4 chairs/stools. The decor is a bit contrived. Barrel ceiling is nice but ultimately it amplifies the noise. Most tables, regardless of age, are using phones or votive candles to try to see the menus. Our server was very nice and very attentive. Our water glasses never ran dry and beverages were replenished when requested. Dinner service was a perfect pace. She didn't think they had spiced rum and brought a mixed drink from the bar but none of us managed to figure out what it was. The Beef tartare was very good. The Beef Wellington is very expensive at $78. Even though the mushroom duxelles was a little on the dry side, the beef, the pastry and the bordelaise were excellent. Everything is a la carte and I would not say the sides are sharing portions. All the service staff we encountered were very nice folks. Oddly, there is only 1 single-user bathroom for the restaurant although you can go through the kitchen to their restaurant next door to use the restrooms there. Too much effort overall for my liking but probably worth checking out for those who love a pricey steak-house. I almost forgot to mention that we were there to celebrate a recent elopement and our server very graciously brought 4 sparkling wines to the table with her congratulations.
