Unethical Business
This restaurant is running a scam. They illegally charge for tap water and add a “health insurance” surcharge on the final bill. I don’t know what it is about restaurants in the US, but they really seem to to enjoy scamming their customers with extra gratuities and fees. Don’t give places like this your business.

Why can’t all Italian restaurants have food this good? The pork ragu pasta was incredible — among the best I’ve ever eaten. Staff was kind and prompt.

During “normal” times, we enjoy eating here regularly—liver crostone w fig jam, best pastas in the world, reasonably priced wine list, helpful staff. With the world currently in disarray, we picked up a wonderful take-out dinner. Not quite the same as devouring our food in the lively dining room —but for the time being, it was pretty fabulous. Thank you Alimento

We were lucky. We got in before the current craziness took over. The restaurant is now temporarily closed according to state guidelines. When they reopen you'll be glad to give it a try.
The crispy polenta and saffron tots have similar basics but are totally different experiences. I'm a sucker for polenta and loved both. We also enjoyed the Baccala, Masa gnocco frito, braised lettuce bruschetta, and yellowtail collar. This is Italian that you may not be familiar with but you'll want more. Even the spaghetti with Dungeness crab was different, and out of this world.
The service was attentive and warm. I'll return on my next trip to LA.
Great Takeout
My wife and I recently ordered takeout from Alimento and really enjoyed their food. We ordered a couple of pasta dishes , the radicchio salad, and the lamb belly. All of the dishes were very tasty. Except for the radicchio salad, all servings were moderately sized. We would definitely order from them again.
Be the first to ReplyGood, Over-Priced Italian
Alimento offers a new take on Italian dishes. We tried a number of items on their menu:
--Chicken liver corstone: Lots of liver. Very tasty. Not like my grandmother used to make.
--Masa gnocco frito: Very good.
--Cracked farro salad: Ok, not great.
--Pork meatballs: Good. An order comes with 3 meatballs for $15. Since there were 4 of us, we added one meatball, which should have cost $5, but they charged $6. Why?
--Spelt maccheroncini: Probably the weakest dish. Nothing special.
Note: There is no free water at Alimento. You have to pay $1.50 for tap water. Ridiculous. Their prices for beer are also much too high.
The waitstaff is helpful and friendly.
Sad Service
My husband and I went to celebrate an anniversary, but we deeply regret going. This is in no way a quite or romantic restaurant. However, that was not the issue. Our waitress took our order, but one of the dishes never arrived, the waitress also never appeared again. Once another staff member finally approached us with the bill (45 minutes later) we were charged with the invisible dish. e asked why we were being charged and she claimed they were still preparing it, seriously? It was a simple ravioli dish. This was extremely frustrating, we will not be back.
Be the first to ReplyWHAT A GREAT FIND!!!
Was recommended thru Yelp. Food was great and five of us shared 5 dishes, which were all wonderful. Service was fantastic and prompt. A lovely find.
Be the first to ReplyWorth the hype!
There were 5 of us. We ordered many dishes.
We shared them all.
Tersa (I hope that I spelled it right) our waitress was perfect. She guided us with patience and knowledge. She was focussed on making our dinner perfect. She opened our wine bottles with professionalism. She listened to our desires and that became her focus and job.
Heather who took my reservation was warm and friendly and accommodating. She was that in person as well.
I know that for me the most important thing about a dining experience is the “food”.
Well that can be ruined by bad service either from the waiters or the greeters.
This was a complete and wonderful experience.
The sprouting broccoli was full of flavor and the spicy hazelnuts in the brown butter was delicious.
The ricotta dumpling in the lamb consomme had a great taste. It had added flavors that made the ricotta taste more like a great aged gouda. It was great.
The heirloom tomatoes were really good quality.
The yellowtail collar though unusual interpretation was delicious. It had been smoked, which enriched the taste. It was juicy and I loved “sucking” the meat from the bones.
It was accompanied by potatoes that reminded me of German style. It was a perfect marriage. This was loved by all.
The Tortellini in Brodo was al dente and tasted delicious.
The Agnolotti with ricotta and spring peas and pea tendrils and pecorino was refreshing and tasty.
The whole grilled Orata which is like a Branzino, was cooked to perfection. The surrounding flavors were wonderful. The Calabrian chili complemented the fave bean purée. It was a perfect combination.
So was this dining experience.
All the supporting staff were friendly carrying out making our experience just the way it should be.
Thank you!!!!
Foodie’s Delight
Had a lovely meal with my family at this hip and delicious restaurant. A lot of variety and small plates to share. It’s a dream dinner for anyone who likes to try thoughtful, edgy food. Great wine menu. Attentive and helpful staff.
Be the first to ReplyGood but expensive
Visited here as there was a lot of hype about the quality of the plates and pasta. Whilst the plates were flavoursome and of high quality, the prices were a bit steep. The idea of the menu was one consisting of small, medium and large plates.
The server suggested the plates on offer should be taken like tapas for the whole table. Some of the plates just weren't large enough to share between 4 and so felt a bit exploited by the menu.
If the menu was altered a little I would visit again.
