Addendum: When is this place ever open??? Your website says open Friday and Saturday 11-2. We got here on a Saturday at 11:30 on 3/30 (so it's officially spring) and you're not open. Good thing they are able to accommodate us at the bar at Ad Hoc. Please update your website!!! As for the food, I won't be able to rate because I didn't have the fried chicken yet.
Be the first to ReplyCame in for brunch.
Service was prompt and the ambiance was inviting and comfortable. I loved the seating and natural lighting throughout. The food was ok. The best part of the menu was the fried chicken and salad. I realize that I may just not enjoy the buttery or truffle richness as much as others. In retrospect, I would have preferred to keep the salad available throughout the meal to cut through the richness of the meal. The hot sauce was just sauce. There's an opportunity to improve the condiments with brighter flavors, especially for a spring menu.citrus? Herbs? Tomato? Just about anything. The monkey bread was dry. I was bummed. Alas.
Be the first to ReplyMaybe my expectation for their fried chicken was too high.
The batter was crispy and the meat was juicy but it was too greasy. It reminded me of Popeyes chicken but double the price. Nothing special. I had a dinner reservation at Ad Hoc on the same day but I ended up canceling it because I was so disappointed by their fried chicken. And this Addendum was closed in the middle of their open hour so I went to the restaurant to ask why it was closed and they let me order the chicken from the kitchen.

I have been to Ad hoc restaurant before and it was great, never tried the addendum and I read so many good reviews about their fried chicken. So I was really looking forward to give a try. Arrived the place on a weekend and found that the place is not currently open. But we could order at the restaurant as take out (without the usual add-on and for an extra charge). We went ahead and ordered a small bucket. The order didn't take too long and as we were waiting, we saw a few other people came by and check out the fried chickens just like us (popular fried chicken spot indeed) Our small bucket came with 7 mix pieces. They were crispy and crunchy but I didn't get the " wow " feeling. They do seem to be less greasy than other fried chickens I had, but good or bad, that is really subjective. To me, I think a little grease actually enhance the flavor and hits the spot. The chicken meat was pretty tender and not dry but overall little lack of flavor.
Be the first to ReplyBasically a Garden of Eden.
.. but better, because this garden has Fried Chicken instead of fruit. Tucked behind "ad hoc," is a gravel path that leads into "addendum" -- admittedly thought it was going to be more hype than anything given the attributions, location, and the ubiquitous category it specialized in... but it turned out to be the most impressively delicious fried chicken ever. Frankly I didn't know fried chicken could be so good -- it wasn't greasy, the inside which was juicy and extremely balanced and seasoned through-and-through, the outside was perfectly crunchy with a good consistency, and the finishing touches of salt and rosemary. The side items faded into the background, including the understandably pricey added-on caviar item that didn't really add to the experience headlined by the fried chicken... although the champagne (that comes with the caviar) did work well with fried chicken. Deceivingly casual, besides the location, the entire no frills service format involving ordering out of one shack, picking up at another (bigger) shack, and self seating at basic picnic tables... great for any kind of party whether single travelers to families.

Amazing experience! Our bartender Byron provided impeccable service with awesome recommendations for lunch and libations! The chicken definitely lived up to its reputation but the steak with chimichurri and key lime parfait were surprisingly equally delicious!

Honestly, I'd probably splurge a little more and go sit at the bar at ad box and get the fried chicken there. Somehow the fried chicken here was dry and bland. Mind you, it's a far cry from the one I had at ad hoc previously. It was surprising and such a disappointment :(

During our Napa Valley trip last month, we couldn't resist checking out Thomas Keller's affordable joint just behind Ad Hoc. We got there around 1 pm, and the line was pretty long. If you can, try ordering ahead since that lets you skip the wait and head straight to the pickup counter. We of course got the buttermilk fried chicken. It was very crispy, juicy, and seasoned well. And for dessert, we enjoyed their chocolate chip cookie. Parking's a bit of a puzzle with their small lot, but we lucked out and found a spot right away. The place is outdoors and there were a lot of bees. So, maybe consider getting your food to go. All in all, we enjoyed our meal and would definitely recommend it to anyone nearby!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent fried chicken in a small garden behind Thomas
Excellent fried chicken in a small garden behind Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc. The location is a bit hectic with a small parking lot and packed seating. I think a lot of folks stop by here on their weekend trips to Napa, so don't expect anything quiet. But, the fried chicken is totally worth the trouble. Juicy, well-seasoned, excellent crust. I can't imagine changing anything about the chicken to make it better. With the included sides that were also good, a corn muffin and macaroni salad, we had a perfectly small lunch on our way through Napa Valley ourselves. Totally worth the stop!!!

I've had this place on my radar for months (waiting for it to come out of hibernation!) as a cute and budget-friendly introduction to Thomas Keller's restaurant group, but my expectations were sadly too high and unmet when I finally was able to make it during a holiday. We lined up right at opening and there was a line ~10-15 individuals deep, but it moved quickly. The menu was a bit challenging to see from afar (although very aesthetic and handwritten, and it was sweet to enjoy the garden ambiance (picnic benches, flowers in full bloom, a little side garden) as we waited. Since we came for the chicken, we got a pail of fried chicken, and also decided to try the lobster roll special. After a wait, we received both and dug in with anticipation. The fried chicken was crispy and not dry, but overall the chicken itself was not so flavorful. It also felt a little too wholesome without any of the comforting grease that I think of when I think fried chicken - kind of like whole wheat bran crust on chicken breast. There were a few sprigs of herbs and generous salt crystals on the chicken but after one piece, the I grew a bit tired of the flavor and added ketchup for a pop to subsequent pieces. We wondered if we'd gotten a plate with mac salad and cornbread if that would have helped with some variety, but didn't think that either of those carbs would add the acid needed to cut and deepen the existing flavor of the fried chicken. We also found the lobster roll to be a bit bland and simple in flavors, too. There was a generous amount of well-shelled and cooked lobster, but even the mayo seemed underseasoned and there wasn't much dimension to the dish - a few pickled onions, otherwise just the lobster mix and a toasted bun. I had high hopes for Addendum but just didn't find the foods to be very flavorful and could not keep eating the same flavors. It was an enjoyable picnic location but I would not come back for the food again.
Be the first to ReplyLove their chicken sandwiches! They're a really good size
Love their chicken sandwiches! They're a really good size and come with a side of chips. The service is great. We arrived around 12:30 pm on a Saturday, line wasn't too long and food was fast. The ambiance was lovely! We wanted to eat there as there was plenty of seating and such a beautiful day, however while we were waiting for our food we noticed there were too many bees so we ended up taking it to go. When we picked up our food, they read our order to us and we confirmed it however when we got home we realized we were missing a macaroni salad (we should've checked too). Overall it was really good, I think next time we'll just make sure we got our food correctly.
Be the first to ReplyI went when it first was open.
Bought each dish and the fried chicken was delicious with a very easy garden relaxed atmosphere. Love it
Be the first to ReplyThe best chicken in the Bay Area!!! Highly recommend.
Open during the summer months. My favorite chicken joint.

Just an FYI , it is closed now until April! We went today and last weekend was the last time they were open. Ad hoc was open for walk ins at the bar since it was full booked. Fried chicken was great!
Be the first to ReplySome of the best fried chicken we've had.
The crust remained crispy, didn't get soggy or oily. Wish it was warm though. The chicken sandwich was good with the fresh roll. The aioli was too sweet for the sandwich but that's a personal preference. The only annoying part was the bees around the picnic tables; made it impossible to eat as they would swarm around the food and would not go away.
Be the first to ReplyIt's a pretty place, nice for picnics.
Had a small corn hole grassy area. The fried chicken was Crispy the best part but seasoning was just salty... no special herb or spice. The sandwich was ok. Bread was too thick. Liked the fried chicken more since I can taste the chicken more. Corn bread was ok... a bit denser than some I had elsewhere . Didn't have a honey coating. Chocolate cookies were delicious:-) customer service was great. They have one cute restroom.

Whoa - the best fried chicken in the Napa area! They are located behind Ad Hoc in a backyard, garden setting area with picnic tables scattered throughout. You stand in line, order your chicken, pick it up when ready, and enjoy. We enjoy eating a bucket at their picnic table, but have also ordered a bucket to go and eat it at one of the wineries that allows you to bring your own food. The chicken is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, the seasoning they put on it is delicious as well. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

After drinking midday at the local tasting rooms, Addendum is just what you need. They offer some good ol' fried chicken, cornbread, and macaroni salad. Cannot go wrong. It just tastes good. The seating is communal. Take a seat in the shade or sunlight. Bring your dog, they offer water bowls. There is also corn hole and an area for children to play. Food was good and quick and just what you need in between a day of wine drinking.

(4.5 stars) Some of the best fried chicken I've had. Such tender meat and crispy skin, beautifully dusted with seasoning. I only with there were more sides to accompany it. Hard to beat for a family weekend lunch.
Be the first to ReplyI would like to say that eating here immediately transports
I would like to say that eating here immediately transports you to scrumptious food memories from childhood. Savory home cooked memories wrapped in delicious hand made breads and topped with the most delicate finishing spices. But let's be honest...your momma didn't fry chicken this good. Don't get me wrong, you are transported. The atmosphere is perfect for the typically idyllic weather, with picnic tables beside home grown gardens. Sit in the shade, or the sun, it doesn't matter. Because once you taste this hand breaded chicken finished with salt and rosemary and cooked to perfection, you're finished. Give up. You might as well abandon all other chicken, pitch a tent and just plan to live here a while. It's. That. Good. And when you get home with the bucket you inevitably bought, don't disservice this chicken with a microwave, reheat it correctly, or eat it cold. You know what? Go ahead and nuke it, it will probably still be great. You really can't go wrong here.
Be the first to ReplyI've been wanting to come here for so long.
We spent our anniversary in Napa. This chicken is heaven! We also shared a bottle of champagne. It was a lovely area as well. We will be back.

If their garden/backyard is open this place has a great outdoor dining space! ย Try to find a shady spot because Napa gear really hot! ย Their friend chicken is the star so I would not order other sandwiches. We tried the pulled pork one and it was ok. Their chicken is good but very heavy on the rosemary. There's no selection of white or dark meat so your bucket will come with dry-ish breast pieces too. Overall it was a good experience to try it but I really do prefer Popeyes more.

My favorite fried chicken ever: and I'm married to a southern boy.Food: 5, Service: 4, Atmosphere: 4Cost to worth it rating: 4 for this quality chicken (small bucket of 6 pieces for $30)Return worthiness: yes!Highlights: - Breading on the chicken: light and airy, infused with rosemary for that nice fresh herb flavor, and topped with gorgeous white sea salt crystals. 5 stars- Picnic tables: lovely garden to sit in with a group of picnic tables. Fantastic in great Cali weather most times but even more appreciated during Covid times.- Pre-order online: up to 2 days ahead via ToastTab.Lowlights:- Order limitations these days: no sides available and only 6 piece or larger bucket options.- Wine bottles prices marked up pretty high so didn't get any. Fantastic quick lunch on a Napa wine tasting day.

One of those memorable experiences that you have been waiting as you heard so much about it from your family, but it fell way short. Decided to order our bucket of fried chicken when in the region during our anniversary weekend. Hubby had been there with our daughter before (1+ year ago) and absolutely loved it (he is a big foodie and I trust his judgement). - there is no sign at Addendum that your meal is really being delivered from the back door of Ad Hoc.- once we knew, the meal was ready and we got it right away.- Asked why we couldn't order sides on the website and wanted to order while there, they said they didn't have any sides to serve that day (Saturday being a busy day you would think they would plan for!!)- took the fried chicken to the picnic tables in the addendum area and there was no utensils, napkins,...)- Chicken lacked taste and most pieces were too dry compared to what my husband had tried the first time.Bottom line, not a Thomas Keller quality of meal nor service we expected... won't be back to this one. What a shame!!
