Acquolina is noooiice!! From ambiance to service down to food, affirming that we made the right dinner choice of the night. It was close to 8pm when we opted to park in the garage because street parking on a stormy Sat night was almost impossible. Walked over a block or two and a bit of a wait for a table, but we finally sat down after 15mins shivering outside. Finally sat and dinner companion ordered the show! Spaghetti parmigiano, w/ mushroom & truffles...cooked table in the wheel of parmigiano and served with porcini mushrooms & black truffle sauce - that was killers! But can't eat too much of it because it so rich! The kid got their Margherita pizza. I ordered the seafood stew pasta, boss got their spaghetti & meatballs, and dear lady their ravioli. Their calamari and shrimp app was also delectable! I typically avoid north beach because parking and tourist trap, but it was a nice treat to be in Washington Square! Service was great from sitting til paying at the end...really sweet and attentive staff! Plan to take the hubs here and another pie or pasta! Grazie!

Went here for a 7:30 reservation, got seated at 8:00 and told the menu posted on line that day was invalid. Left for a great experience at Sodini's.

If you don't care about service, go for it We Really want to love this place...BUT... the service is just sooo disappointing. Hope you have better luck than me.

Acquolina has a really cozy interior with a decent menu, but the first thing you notice when you're dining inside is how closely packed together the tables are. It can feel pretty tight and you can hear pretty much every conversation from the tables around you. As for the food, the gnocchi and cacio e pepe were both decent but on the pricey side for what they were. The polpette was a solid antipasti though. Service was excellent but it may be worth it to check out other spots in North Beach for dinner.

Tonys had a super long wait, so we decided to check this place out! We ordered the papardelle al cinghaile, Trofie al pesto & foccacia caprese for appetizer. The cinghaile was AMAZING! Cooked perfectly and tasted fresh. Loved the pesto pasta as well. Did not like the type of pasta it was for the dish. The pesto sauce itself was fresh and was a perfect pesto. I would order this again with just a different pasta type maybe?! Foccacia caprese was good but wish it had a bit more flavor to it? Waitress was super friendly and had a nice ambiance in there

I came to Acquolina because all the other restaurants in the area were super crowded, and Acquolina wasn't as busy but still had a good number of people there. The ambiance of the restaurant was bright and nice, and they were playing one of the Star Wars movies on the TVs. The service to start was really slow, no one was helping us for about 20 minutes and we had to flag the host down to get someone to take our order. Once we ordered, we were excited to try the cheese wheel pasta since we were in a group and would be a good dish to share. They gave us a little show of how they prepared it which was entertaining to watch. I didn't really like the pasta though, it was very flavorless and the guancialle was super fatty and inedible. I also tried the meatball appetizer dish, which wasn't that amazing either. Overall, found this place to be overpriced and not worth it. It might be worth it to just come here for a drink if you're waiting to get a seat at another restaurant in the area.

I made a reservation online a week before for a party of 6 and we were seated in the outdoor area. The servers gave us great recommendations! We started off with the spring mix salad and bruschetta. We decided on 3 pastas and 2 pizzas. My favorite was the Maiala (great for meat lovers)! I loved the combination of molinari Italian sausage with the classic tomato base. The pastas were perfectly al dente and also came with a cheese wheel show! Great spot if you're looking for a place to have a glass of wine accompanied with great food. -1 star because we had a hard time getting ahold of the server to refill our

At the risk of making this place incredibly busy, I am going to suggest that this is the best Pizza in North Beach. We took two Italian exchange students to Acquolina for lunch on Saturday. One had been there before. He asked if we will please come again before he returns to Italy in June. Both kids were torn on what to order. They were desperate for good Italian food. They both selected pizza. I'm pretty sure I saw a tear in my exchange student's eye when he tasted the amazing pizza. Until this day, he was convinced the best pizza he has had in the US was in Seattle. Before Seattle, the best pizza was in Venice Beach. The mouth-watering pizza at Acquolina has taken the lead. Congratulations to the chef, who we asked to meet. He came out to talk to the kids and they were thrilled. It was like meeting a rockstar. My Cacio e Pepe was so good. I will make sure we always eat here when we go to North Beach. The servers are so accommodating and the restaurant is bright and cute and so good. We have loved it every single time. As we left and walked down the street, we walked by other restaurants that were crazy busy. None of their food looked as good as what we ate. Long live the chef, Giuseppe.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was fast and good.
I wasn't overly impressed. The ambiance is very true to Little Italy. Right in the heart of everything. Lunch and liquor was overall a decent experience. A couple pizzas and beer. It did the job!
Be the first to ReplyThis is a tasty North Beach restaurant.
I'll cut to the cheese . You must try the cheese wheel pasta!!(Parmigiano Special). I've looked all around the city, and so far this is the only place that i've found which has it, and it is so delicious!!With so many restaurants to try in the city, it's hard to go back to the same one, but i've already been a few times just for this!Other than that, service was very professional, friendly and efficient. We started with the charcuterie platters. Delicious variety of meats and cheeses. We also shared Burrata - by Angelo e Franco served with sliced oranges, roasted red beets & cherry tomatoes. Good wine list and excellent service made this a special evening for all. Many thanks to the kitchen and waitstaff for taking such good care of us.All in all, it's an easy restaurant to go into for a nice short dinner with a must try pasta!

There are many better options for good Italian food in the neighborhood. The wine was meh. I could tell it was a cheap bottle and it was $14 a glass.

I love coming here for lunch outside on the weekends with my dog. All the food is excellent and the service is fast and friendly.
Be the first to ReplyI'm not a picky foodie.
I've eaten in plenty of restaurants in my day, both good, bad, and meh. The service at Acquolina is fine, the staff aren't super interested in making sure the food arrives at the same time for the whole table but their attitude is fine. The first few times we ate at this bustling corner restaurant we had enjoyable food, if not the most delicious and delectable the food was good enough. Though over priced, we factored in the tourist tax that often goes with living in San Francisco. Last night we had one of the worst meals we've ever eaten in a restaurant. I suspect the "chef" was just a line cook who has no idea how to prepare the kind of dishes on the menu. The medium rate steak was well done. The duck was rubbery and bland. The polenta had hard chunks of unmelted cheese in it, I'm not even sure how that's possible. The "wild boar" was not boar, the pasta was thick and grainy and rubbery. The $5 bread (yes, they charge for bread!) was STALE and hard. Never again. Gross and disappointing that what was once an okay restaurant has just decided to not give a f@$! and rip off the customers.

This is such an adorable restaurant, great vibe, and plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors (with two covered parklet areas, and outdoor heaters). There's also a bit of bar seating as well and a couple TV's inside to enjoy your favorite sports while dining. The passion fruit mojito had really good flavor and was fairly strong, one of the best mojitos I've had. For food, my bf and I had the Tagliolini ai Frutti di Mare, and it was delicious with a tomatoey sauce, full of tasty clams, muscles, octopus, and shrimp, and pasta cooked perfectly al dente. But not as good as the Maremma pizza we tried. Their pizzas come in one size, about 12 inches diameter. I loved the thin light crust, generous amount of cheese, and flavorful combination of sausage, mushrooms, and black truffle cream... it was soo good. And our order only took about 10 minutes to be served to our table on what seemed like a somewhat busy Saturday evening (New Year's eve). The customer service was amazing, all of the staff worked efficiently and professionally, and were very friendly during our visit. And with the string lights, high ceiling, and charming decor all around, I'd say it's a perfect spot for date night if you're looking for some good drinks and well-made Italian dishes (especially pizza!).

I ordered the gricia pasta which was made in front of us with a cheese wheel! It was so fun seeing it being made in front of us. The pasta was pretty large and so creamy - the cheese wheel definitely made a difference. The house red was solid as well. There are hooks at the tables to hang your jacket and purse which I appreciated. I'll be back for the cheese wheel!

Stopped by for some appetizers while watching the 49ers game. Ordered the brussels sprouts wtih guancaile and it was awful! The guancaile was so hard that you couldn't even chew it, so basically paid $18 for six brussels sprouts that were halved. Spoke to 3 waitpersons and all ignored the dissatisfaction with the dish (no offer to remove the charge from the bill or replace with an edible dish).Ambience was nice but won't be returning anytime soon.
Be the first to ReplyAcquolina reminds me of the MCU movie Thor the Dark World.
Compared to contemporaries of other MCU movies or Italian eateries in the North Beach, both fall flat and forgettable. And just as movies have become expensive for a family, the prices at Acquolina do not justify the food nor poor service. The best item we had was the margarita pizza. Healthy amount of sauce and probably could have used a little more basil, but good. Avoid the Primavera. In bad comic book movies, a villain without rhyme or reason serves as the chief catalyst for a poor product. A pizza without flavor or very limited sauce ends up with a similar undesirable output. Unfortunately the tiramisu had the same issues. Even Bane would revolt against this pie and dessert. Finally our waiter disappeared for long stretches. I realize they are busy and we were sitting on the sidewalk booth, but chasing down your waitress twice during a dining experience at a nice restaurant is really unacceptable. Lots of other eateries in the neighborhood, here is hoping they improve. Ragnarok came after Dark World, it is possible!

Heated outdoor seating available! Stumbled across this restaurant and saw the cheese wheel and was instantly sold.Reservations weren't required, so we were lucky to get seated right away on a Saturday! The menu has a wide variety of options to choose from, I especially love seeing they have homemade pasta available. For the pizzas, if you DO NOT eat pork -- you cannot substitute the Italian sausage for a different protein. After 5pm every day, they host the experience to choose a pasta dish (about 3 different ones) and have it made in a cheese wheel! Cannot go wrong with FRESH PARM. We chose the truffle mushroom pasta and the Pizza Maremma! Both were a 4/5 with such rich flavor. The pasta was cooked Al dente and the Parmesan was perfect, so rich in flavor. The pizza crust was so light and tender, usually you worry that thin crust would lead to soggy pizza but that was not the case! Sooo good!!
Be the first to ReplyWait for Tony's.
Explicitly asked for half-and-half pizza 3 times and came out with 2 pizzas with terribly bland taste. Was not served cups of water. "Fresh" lemonade was very obviously minute maid. When it was time to pay for the $60 pizza, waitor assumed that I (the man) was paying and not my girlfriend even though he saw her put the card in from her wallet. Waited 10 extra minutes after asking multiple times for a to-go box for the pizza to not even fit it in it. Had to fold it. Should've dined and dashed.

We went here for dinner on a Saturday night and were greatly disappointed by the service. My partner's entree, the grana padano pasta, took an hour to come out and our waiter served my food early (not with the entree as I requested). During that time, we did not receive water or soda refills despite trying to flag down any waiter or busboy we saw. Also, my food got cold which they kindly replaced upon request. The food itself is average. I enjoyed the (all beef) meatballs and the caprese focaccia was just okay. The grana padano pasta special was underwhelming with dry sausage and bland broccoli.
