We made a reservation here for a la carte lunch, and it was a wonderful experience, but not all of the food was a total hit. Everything is priced by the piece, so it does add up. I definitely had some favorites and some I wouldn't order again, but everything was beautifully plated and I had a wonderful experience. One of my favorites was the scallop cheung fun. They had such unique and innovative plays on traditional dim sum food. Like the shumai and har gao were even done differently than usual (and done extremely well!!). The service was also quite nice, but I did have to get their attention a couple times to notice I needed a refill on my tea. The restaurant itself was set up in an interesting way. If you arrive early, they take you to a waiting area in their basement which is quite interesting. However, I'm not a fan of their outdoor dining section--it feels a little makeshift and doesn't feel as upscale as what you might expect a 2 Michelin star place to feel like. I'd love to come back here to do the tasting menu for dinner as I hear it's a bit different from the lunch menu. Overall, will likely be back, but it is pricey with some hits and misses, so won't be a regular occurrence.

Wong, and the duck yolk custard bun still lives rent free in my mind. I think about it daily and look forward to my next visit.
Be the first to ReplyWhat an incredible experience.
Tashi and Matthew gave my mother and I an incredible dim sum experience. This restaurant is worth every Michelin star.

Food: unnecessarily fussy Service / ambiance: far from 2 Michelin worthyValue: very subparI would not eat here again or recommend that anybody does for the price they charge. How this place got a Michelin star let alone two, I'll never know. The experience is just not worth the money, time, or distinction. Was it bad? Far from. It was perfectly okay. But okay is many steps from 2 Michelin stars or 225 pounds per person.Strike 1: being locked out of the restaurant on arrival. 5pm seating reservation, arrived at 4:55 and was sent out in the cold bc they weren't ready as if we were the strange ones for being basically on time. 2 other parties arrived while we waited, all equally as confused, and they let us in late. Odd to make that first impression. Any other restaurant would welcome us in to wait at the bar with a drink in hand or something.Strike 2: being sat basically outside in the makeshift enclosed terrace space. The draft every time someone opened the door. The streetside smoke that wafted in. The little lawn chairs, practically, that we sat in. Not at all the cozy and comfortable hospitality you'd expect. That's before the food actually began to arrive. I really wanted to like this food. We just ate at ATOMIX where they masterfully elevate korean cuisine and I wanted so much to see the same done for Chinese food. But it was very much showing technique for the sake of technique, fussiness for the sake of fussiness, but also ends up being a jack of all trades, master of none t type of situation. I had a mediocre lukewarm soup dumpling. A mediocre cold tiny helping of Tofu pudding, a muffled down version of Yunnan raw beef salad, hand pulled noodles that got fried (but you typically eat that for the texture, not to be just shown a video of the technique??).. Basically all things you'd get for much better at a regular restaurant that specializes in these regions,at a fraction of the price. The dining experience here and the versions of these dishes didn't elevate the original dish with technique (in fact the original dishes are simple, humble but very technique heavy), did not provide a point of view from the chef, and was not anchored by and did not portray an authentic experience from the chef. These are the reasons you eat at a 2 Michelin star restaurant for many times the price. A wong's menu did not deliver. the actual service - It was not rude, but also was a little clumsy, disingenuous, and impersonal. The backservers were actually super sweet but they were not trained for the elevated dining style. I personally don't care about service etiquette at all, but the stark contrast between the roles is kind of jarring. Probably the worst service we had in London and at the nicest restaurant we booked. I would just prefer a polished concept at least to be deserving of the price tag. This was the most disappointing meal in our 2 week trip to Europe. Sadly a wong did not properly elevate Chinese cuisine to the western stage, in my view as a Chinese-American diner.

Very dismissive staff, for a hungry solo traveler who still had an hour before their closing time.. appears they had 2 available tables and a decongested bar area.
Be the first to ReplyTypically, I wouldn't write about a restaurant that I
Typically, I wouldn't write about a restaurant that I didn't like, but A. Wong--the Chinese restaurant outside of China with the most Michelin stars--was that much of a crushing disappointment. With waiting lists until November, my mom and I literally ran across London when we got a call that they could squeeze us in.Alas, the food just wasn't that good. For every dish, we could think of a significantly cheaper restaurant in China that could do better. We could make better-tasting food. With every dish served, we grew more anxious for the meal to be over.A. Wong's issue is not 'inauthenticity,' which may be a concern for some diners. We have loved Chinese fusions and creative dim sum before. But unique is not always preferable, as evidenced by their xiao long bao soup that simply tasted off. Attempts to be innovative fell flat with overly salty or sour aftertastes, and gimmicks like a crunch on top of the xiu mai, or painting our peking duck wraps with a paintbrush, added little to the actual flavor, leaving us very much unmoved. Even dishes where flavors were ok, like the DIY lamb buns, could not possibly justify their price (for ่ๅคน้ฆ, Murger Han is an option that provides far better value). While some dishes were 'too' creative, others were the definition of mediocrity. The tofu starter or the beef rice bowl main were laughably pretentious -- a spot-the-difference game between generic Chinese food and supposed fine dining. The pickled vegetables atop the tofu could have been store-bought ๆถช้ตๆฆจ่; the so-called spicy wagyu beef mixture under the corn starter was suspiciously reminiscent of ่ๅนฒๅฆ. A restaurant whose flavors are either unpleasant or unexceptional is hardly deserving of the praise that A. Wong has garnered. The best restaurants are good because their food is truly original and memorable, not just aesthetically interesting. A. Wong offers nothing special in flavor, service, or environment, yet is exorbitantly priced. Our repeated lamentation of the night was: what were you thinking, Michelin?Dined: September 6, 2021

Perfect fine dining restaurant for some mouth-watering dishes. Must try dim-sum on your visit to Hongkong at Wong.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food but an incredibly slow pace.
Took 3 hours to have a tasting menu in a restaurant that was not fully booked. Their restaurant in Delhi was much better. The food here was good, but they were not on top of service when compared to other Michelin Star restaurants. Overall it was a good experience, but I expected more. I would give 5 stars when compared to normal restaurants, but this one didn't meet the Michelin Star standards.
Be the first to ReplySimply amazing.
ย Great service and awesome food. ย The Dim Sum was delicious, as was the Peking Duck. ย The King Prawns though, along with the crispy beef were the star of the show!Great value for money and it's clear why they have a Michelin Star !
Be the first to ReplyThis place is a 10.
The service was impeccable. The staff was friendly, accommodating & knowledgeable. The food was superb. We ordered al la cart as we didn't have THAT much time before hitting the theater. We got the dumpling basket, EXCELLENT, i mean the flavor was there, the texture was there, the consistency & they were all the PERFECT temperature. Next, the duck with the pancake thing. They came around with a duck leg and all the fixings. The server went ahead and deboned & shredded the duck meat. See photo. it was amazing The aubergine was the best eggplant dish i have ever eaten in my life. Got the crunchy noodles they were perfectly crunch with lots of flavor and sauce on the bottom, big dish, very filling. Got the octopus black pepper dish, i was so stuffed by the time this arrived but it was glorious. Finally got the banana dessert, it was so good, i wanted to lick the plate. there's always an extra pocket in the belly for dessert, whatever you do TRY TO SAVE ROOM FOR IT.
Be the first to ReplyNot having been back to Hong Kong for some time, I don't
Not having been back to Hong Kong for some time, I don't know any other restaurant that has fine dining for dim sum. It certainly doesn't exist in NYC. Which makes A.Wong a must go to spot for any fans of dim sum. I wish there were Canto chefs in NY that are as imaginative and innovative as Chef Wong. Scallop puff was simply amazing. It's beyond describing so I won't try. Just get it. Duck yolk custard bun was probably the best thing there. Soft chewy bun with creamy custard inside with a nice toasted bottom. Must get. Prawn roll was good but you could skip. Wagyu tart with peas was a nice one bite wonder. Good but you can pass. The shrimp dumpling with foam and pork shu mai and pork crackling are 1/2 combos you must get. Roast pork with foie gras to share wasn't presented as beautifully but was good. Not a must. Glutinous rabbit and carrot puff was excellent. Shaped like a carrot, it was one of my favorites. Must get. Soft shell crab rice roll was another favorite. Must get. Spicy wonton with fried tofu was good but not a must have. Shrimp dumpling with infused vinegar was wonderful. Must get. Wild mushroom Truffle bun is placed on faux grass and made to look like a mushroom and is executed perfectly. Must get. Scallop rice roll is good and worth a try. Tastes are similar to the scallop puff.

Be the first to ReplyOutstanding variety of dishes and excellent service.
We ordered the sampler menu and I look forward to returning for dim sum day.
Be the first to ReplyHad tasting menu - Taste of China.
Love the taste of HongKong, TsingTao and Xinjiang, special caviar dimsum is very flavorful and marinated Abalone gave the traditional TsingTao food a new touch. Xinjiang Lamb is quite authentic.

We came in off the street without a reservation and were placed at the bar without any issues. We had come off a day traveling and just Wanted something quick to eat. As everyone knows, San Francisco, where we are from, is known for its Asian cuisine and this restaurant exceeded our expectations. If we have the time we will come back for a more extensive experience. Highly recommended.

We tried many different restaurants on our vacation and our consensus was this was the best meal we had in London. The dishes were creatively conceived and artistically presented. Service was excellent. We loved all the dishes but moo shoo pork and duck egg buns stood out. The finale was a set of stunning white chocolate mahjong tiles.

They denied us because we didn't have a reservation, so we ended up eating at a nearby restaurant. ย We finished our meal and walked by A Wong only to see the restaurant only half full. What a disappointment that they could not take our number or give us the option to book for a later time/date. It all seemed a little odd and not at all right.
Be the first to ReplyWhen dim sum have a Michelin star! While I wasn't blown away
When dim sum have a Michelin star! While I wasn't blown away (except for the custard buns) it's dim sums in it's most refined and creative level for a rather good price! If you manage to get a table, you should most definitely go!!We shared a few of the dim sums and snacks first:Chengdu Street Tofu (very nice), Shangai steamed dumpling ( like xao long bao), Sechuanese chicken and peanut bonbon, Wagyu tart with black beans, Isle of Mull seared scallop and cheung fun, Steamed duck yolk custard bun (a must order), Pork and prawn dumpling, wild mushroom and truffle steamed buns, clear shrimp dumpling and rabbit and carrot glutinous. We also shared a crispy duck and Singapour noodles.Overall I would say certain dishes and presentation deserve the Michelin star but others may not be as up to par. However this is fine Chinese food for a fairly democratic price and it was delicious enough that I would love to come back if I ever manage to get a table again
