OMG!! What has happened to this place? We had planned on going there today but my brother-in-law law and his wife, bonafide food mavens, advised against it as they were there twice within the past few weeks and said it sucks nowadays. What used to be a fabulous place has become crappy and way overpriced. How sad

Cold fries. Really nice people working there. The felafel looked good.

The hot corned beef was great! It's tasty without being overly salty. The ambience is great and gives you that retro feeling. Unfortunately, the service was understaffed.

My food, the pastrami sandwich, was pretty decent, but in no way justifies the $27 price tag (not including tax and tip). The meat often felt stringy--hard to bite and got stuck in my teeth. But on its own outside of the sandwich it was very tasty. I also ordered the potato pancake--It was alright. I could and probably will go my whole life without ever craving another one. The service was acceptable, but nothing spectacular. However, the cookies they laid down at the end of my meal were quite delicious, the deli's take on a black and white cookie. Stop by if your pockets are fat or you really love a pastrami... or don't, it's not that great.

Classic Deli! The food is wonderful, just like Grandma's matzo ball soup (I love all of it) and pastrami as delicious as I have ever had. 2nd Avenue Deli also provides pickles and cole slaw which are both excellent. The service is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The ambiance is classic deli with a side of schmaltz. Five Stars! This was my second time visiting and each time has my mouth watering to come back.

A go to when I'm in the mood for traditional deli like corned beef , pastrami & tongue. One of my favorites.
Be the first to ReplyTheir food is decent I can't deny that.
But what I can deny is their decency towards their customers. The guy at front insulted me when I asked them to ensure they watched over my belonging they said I could not bring inside. Specifically saying "oh that's a cheap item no one will steal it." I decided to leave and on my way out another worker told me I'm "too sensitive" and to stop being upset about their rude attitude. I'm really disappointed that I need to give a bad review but I'm being honest. They really are rude and don't care to be kind to people. Some workers are great but those 2 main guys are arrogant and are creating a big Chillul H-Shem.

I love 2nd Ave deli, they have great authentic kosher items and I have been a happy customer in the past. Sadly I will not be returning. Iv never taken out soup from here and decided to today but left extremely frustrated because a pint of matzo ball soup was 30$ after taxes. I couldn't believe it and frankly it's just robbery. I understand inflation but I think this is absurd. I was dumbfounded at the register but when I got home I'm sad to say it was not worth the hefty price tag.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is horrible with rude staff.
They don't take Apple Pay and I requested help and they just chastised me for not being "a normal person" for not having my wallet instead of using any kindness seeing how stressed I was about this. They are far too overpriced to be treating people this way. The waiter who was rude should be fired for giving them such a bad name. All I wanted was some soup, get with the times! Everyone takes Apple Pay but you. Get rid of your dinosaur staff who doesn't know how to treat people and maybe you'll have more business. Idiots.
Be the first to ReplyPoor service- I am never going back.
The customer facing team was unfriendly and rude.
Be the first to ReplyWe wanted to get nyc's iconic pastrami before we flew out.
...I doordashed this order and thought because it was $25 that it was a ginormous sandwich. It was not. I was shocked and relatively disappointed of the size and the meat stack. Perhaps buying in store is cheaper but $36 for a sandwich with no sides is insane. I thought maybe fries or something. The bread looked like standard sandwich size. I have a deli back home where the bread is jumbo and meat stack is high for $16. Insane.
Be the first to ReplyStill a favorite.
People still very friendly, great customer service. Really 4.5 stars. Like many places there have been some changes maybe due to Covid. Quite a few places have increased prices. I don't think they increased prices but the serving sizes seem smaller than they used to be. The health salad, cole slaw with no mayo, still great. The corned beef and pastrami still very rich and tastes great but wish was still the old sized. But I get it costs, expenses cause limitations
Be the first to ReplyDon't expect 5 star service.
Do expect some wonderful deli meat! This place has larger portion sizes than other well known delis and isn't nearly as crowded but does the job well. The portion sizes is also commensurate to their pricing as it's a bit pricier. Cole slaw is also a bit more on the vinegar sideGreat spot, would highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyVery famous, but in my opinion overrated.
Went in on Saturday eve 6:45. First thing server said was be advised we are about to close It over an hour to closing. . ordered one pastrami, and one corned beef sandwich. Both were excellent quality, but not as large as the cost would indicate. Also ordered a spinach knish which was excellent, but the square Potato knish tasted stale and somewhat sour, perhaps it went bad, so I could not finish. Service was NOT good, even so, I left a normal tip. I was trying as many NY delis as ICould in two days. Ben's was just as good, with better service and much cheaper. Second Ave relies on its reputation but is way overpriced and overrated
Be the first to ReplyBest Jewish deli of all time.
Amazing pastrami, brisket and matzoh ball soup!!! Great service!

I do like the pickles and the coleslaw that they have.

Things just continue to decline. Use to have great brisket and corned beef sandwiches. Was here today and brisket was dry and tasteless. Won't be returning ever again:(. There are other much better alternatives.
Be the first to ReplyWe had always heard about this famous deli.
On a beautiful, sunny NY day, we found the deli- actually off 3rd street. We were greeted gruffly but went in anyway.we asked for the chef salad and the waiter told us they did not have it. They got rid of lots of their items in a new menu including blintzes. A deli without blintzes. Finally we ordered the $27.95 pastrami sandwich. No Russian dressing and on regular rye bread- not double baked. My wife and I have been to dozens of delis in NY, Houston and Los Angeles and this was strange.Honestly, the lean pastrami was very good but not the best we've ever had- Brett's and Langers in Los Angeles is better. All in all, the food was good, service was terrible and prices were sky- high. The breaking point was when we asked for some extra Cole slaw. They brought us an entire side order then charged $8.95 for it. When we politely pointed this out, the cashier was rude: " we'll, you ate it." " yes, but didn't ask for a side. At first, he was going to charge us for it, but we insisted. Maybe we'll do take out next time!
Be the first to ReplyCall before yougo.
They state they close at 8pm on Sunday. I drove down two hours from upstate to pick up family visiting from abroad. They were craving Pastrami. Arrived there at 7:20 pm and an older man at the register said we're closed. Thank goodness he let me use the restroom. As I was walking out he said come back tomorrow. Thankfully we went to Ben Kosher's, made it before 8pm and they served us so no, we won't be going back today.

Having traveled to Manhattan 40-50 times over the years and having tried all the other most popular delis in Manhattan I would like to recommend this deli for, it's service, food and atmosphere! The owner greeted us in person and also sat us and talked to us while acknowledging all the other visitors! The soup was amazing, the pastrami was lean and mean and the prices were more then reasonable! If you want the true small deli experience you've got to go here and see for your self! 6 stars!

In no universe whatsoever does a quart of a basic soup and a few slices of bread need to cost $28. For that price you can get so many better meals in the local area. This is simply ridiculous.
Be the first to ReplyYou cannot leave this place hungry.
The service is great, food is kosher. The Pastrami.....I died and went to heaven...Just Amazing!!!I'm going to be dreaming of it until my next trip to NYC.
Be the first to ReplyDo not- repeat do not- go to the Second Avenue Deli.
There are so many other better places in New York City to experience a traditional Jewish deli. The "ย hotย " pastrami was not hot and the staff revel in being rude to patrons. ย For example, the waitress told me breast milk for my baby was not kosher and, therefore, unacceptable. She said I couldn't walk to the bathroom with my child because it was lunchtime, they were busy and I blocked the aisle. They did not bring us a to-go container despite being asked several times. We saw other patrons leaving due to the attitude of the staff. I would avoid this place.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the money.
Ordered 2 soups to which neither said a size on the paper, so I figured it was a quart for around $13 each. Also order 4 pickles, challah French toast and 2 hot dogs. That price was for a pint of tasteless soup, not a quart. The French toast was flavorless, and hot dogs were mediocre. The price for that tiny bit of food was $89. Never again. I will stick with Sarge's as you get such better food, quality and quantity wise. This pace is a disaster.
Be the first to ReplyThey make you feel at home.
Hard to leave without a smile. The food and service is great. Highly recommend.
