Disappointing Food
Brasserie Van Baerle has changed its policy. Before the Covid-19 pandemic the food was fine. Now the restaurant has been turned into a cash-cow with unimpressive food, poor wines & high prices. Please read on. Brasserie Van Baerle was established in 1980. Decoration and table decoration give the restaurant a pleasant ambiance. Service is adequate. On a cold weekday in February we came for dinner. The restaurant takes reservations and was nearly fully booked. So far so good. This time we found the menu unimpressive. We went for a Steak Tartar with Fries & Salad accompanied by a glass of Spätburgunder and Ravioli with a glass of Chardonnay. We were seriously disappointed. The tartar was OK but nothing special, the small salad was average and the fries were terrible: glazed, partly burned & very salty. A sign that the cook goes for quick and doesn’t care about quality. When we mentioned the uneatable fries to the waitress, she only nodded. That was it. The meagre ravioli was middle-of-the-road. The 2 glasses of wine were of the cheapo style and set us back €17. Sparkling tap-water was presented in a fancy bottle and charged at € 3,95. Brasserie Van Baerle clearly seeks the limit of what the Amsterdam public accepts in lowering quality & raising prices. We found it a never come back show. Unworthy to have a bib-gourmand rating.

Mind blown!! Well worth Bib Gourmand. Fantastic staff, beautiful restaurant but mind blowing food- simply described but masterfully executed!

Brasserie van Baerle made a very positive impression on us. The food was first rate, the service attentive and helpful, and the outdoor patio was a charming place to have our summertime dinner. Big thumbs up.

Very bad concept with very limited time to eat. Rude personal which is telling you to leave. We even couldn’t have a desert. They refused to serve because of the limited time. In general bad experience for a lot of money.

A very nice nice room, very kind service, great food (had Dutch oysters and the pouched egg with salmon), very good selection of wines by glass.

We went for lunch and had a reservation, which was definitely necessary. The staff was incredibly accommodating to our large group. The food was incredibly decadent, with the pâté being a real stand out. If you order the large steak tartare, definitely ask for the poached egg that usually comes on the small. A very nice place to spend a few afternoon hours with friends!!

Hello wonderful people, our amazing hotel, The Dylan made this booking for us. If you have a great hotel concierge, use it they know the places others can’t find.
So off we set on a half an hour walk through the canal paths, squares and galleries of Amsterdam at night, while enjoying some of cali’s finest……this made the walk even more magical, with all of the lights and sounds playing their part too.
When we arrived at the restaurant the welcome and hospitality matched their warm, smart yet relaxed interior.
BOOM, vegan time, our waiter (exceptional) went off plan to chat to the chef and come up with a surprise dining irthday delight.
With each course the chef came to our table to explain his creations. I have to say the universe came together and created some special energy in this chef. He is the main chef dude of Amsterdam in my eyes.
If you want to experience a dining experience that puts you in centre, look no further and enjoy a little bit of green along the way xx
A very happy experience!
With fifteen friends from our long-ago university days, we had booked Brasserie van Baerle for a reunion dinner. The day before our dinner, government regulations for the pandemic ordered all restaurants and cafes in Holland closed by eight every evening... Flexible and friendly, Brasserie management came to the rescue: we made it a 'diner dinatoire' starting early, at half past four in the afternoon. The Brasserie then did everything to allow us to fully enjoy the occasion: the tastefully appointed, comfortable private room upstairs; the service, personable and alert; the well-chosen wines; and the really pleasing food, with fresh ingredients subtly combined and presented. In every aspect of our experience with Brasserie van Baerle, we could feel a strong commitment to our happiness as guests. All this came a highly reasonable prices. Well done, management, kitchen and serving staff - we had a lovely reunion at your restaurant. It was exactly what we had hoped for!

We really ate a fantastic plaice fillet at Brasserie Van Baerle - whatever associations the fish might evoke, throw them away immediately. Really unbelievably good. Fish of the day, so tomorrow another one, but if you can do this, you'll make a party of everything. Quality equally with the starters and desserts. Also worth mentioning is the very large amount of open wines and the others on the wine list. Everything at the level appropriate to the Bib Gourmand.
Lovely garden, nice people. Price-quality ratio in our opinion a 10, but above all: a wonderful experience (again).
Very stylish restaurant with a great vibe
Great atmosphere, you feel like you are in Paris. Great food (also vegetarian and delicious fish) and the staff was very caring. You get recommended wine options per course. The menu options are not a lot but everything looked special and delicious. The price is very acceptable as you will get some amuses and bread as well.
