Bacalar Amsterdam Reviews
It was a long way to go for a poor experience
Food was pretty good. Loud music inside so we sat outside. Not very comfortable. The service was ok but they forgot our third order. We waited and waited. Finally I asked. The waitress said maybe the kitchen cross it off as if this was not unusual. She check and said they made a mistake and crossed it off no apology. We said we wanted the check and to forget the last course.
Excellent food, poor catering experience
Good food, but what a bad experience. Half of the time slot consisted of waiting for the food to be served. Only one order was delivered, after which the rest followed after a long wait. After two rounds we were forced to make a final order. It's fine that you work shifts, but make sure that the kitchen and service are in order. If you want to eat here, come at 8:00 PM so that you are not turned away and can continue eating at home
Great atmosphere and very tasty food.
My daughter had been before and loved it. We were a little trepidatious on walking there as it Iain a very peculiar spot however on arrival it is great. Very buzzy even though we went on a Sunday night. The food was delicious. Everything was full of flavour. The staff were very friendly and super efficient too. I’d recommend this easily
Sensational
Well-filled restaurant, lively atmosphere but not too loud. Food and drinks were very good. Very creative, unusual and well-balanced. The quality of the ingredients was excellent.
A really different Mexican restaurant!
A really different Mexican restaurant with very tasty and special dishes! Recommended. Book well in advance…
Best Tacos in Amsterdam
If you’re considering whether or not to eat here just do it. Have been a few times over the years and it never disappoints. Absolute must if you can - casual setting with excellent service, fantastic cocktails, and a delicious menu. Can’t go wrong with any item in the menu. Not cheap but you’ll get what you pay for here! Highly recommend.
Great food
The food was amazing, and the service was great and fast. The restaurant has a really nice Mexican vibe, I definitely recommend:)
Terrible service and don’t respond to emails!
We ordered 3 dishes and only 2 arrived after one hour, the staff didn’t seem to care and weren’t apologetic. They have also not responded to my partners email about the deposit refund as they forgot to take it off the bill. Not impressed!
Cute place, great service, and amazing Mexican food!
It’s so good I almost don’t want to share so it doesn’t get even more popular and we can get a reservations there next time. 😉 It’s a wonderful restaurant. The music is 10/10! Love it. Very friendly service. Cute place. Great drinks and so many options (wine, beer, kombucha, creative cocktails). Now onto the food. We tried three items and loved them all. I love chilaquiles and was so excited to try them. They were excellent. Two eggs, black beans, pickled onions, tortilla chips soaked in both red and green sauce. Both salsas were fresh and flavorful! The carnitas tacos were also delicious. Great portion with lots of tender and crispy pork and the raw onions and cilantro on top were a perfect balance. The choriquesa was like a quesadilla but fancy. Full of melted cheese (with the best burnt parts on the edges) and with chorizo. The sauces and pico served with it were perfect partners. It was a fantastic meal and some of the best Mexican food I’ve had in a while (and not just in Amsterdam). Yum!!

Let's say Peter has a great morning and decides to take his three friends to Bacalar Amsterdam at 6 PM the same day.
He checks the restaurant's website and sees that no reservations are available. He then looks at the Bacalar Amsterdam page on AppointmentTrader, but finds that there are no user postings either.
That's where the community-driven bid process comes in.
Peter can place a bid on AppointmentTrader, which serves as a reward for any community member who chooses to work on securing the reservation. AT then notifies experienced users who may be able to help.
Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* BraveCloth47, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* BraveCloth47 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to BraveCloth47 for any questions Peter may have as BraveCloth47 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* BraveCloth47 now uses their connections at Bacalar Amsterdam to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If BraveCloth47 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, BraveCloth47 receives the $200 reward which is credited to BraveCloth47's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Bacalar Amsterdam!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
